Library Cards & Services

Library Cards

Physical Library Card:
A physical library card can be used to borrow or reserve materials (inside the library or through the online catalog) or to access to all remotely accessible electronic resources.

There is no charge for a library card.  Patrons are required to present photo identification with current address when applying for a library card.  If you have recently moved, you will need to present an additional document that has been postmarked to your new current address.

Children under age 18 must have a parent or guardian present ID at the library to receive an unrestricted library card. (see below for further information on children’s cards)

eCard:
An eCard is a virtual library card that allows members access to all of Fairport Harbor Public Library’s remotely accessible electronic resources, including online research resources and downloadable eBooks, audio, video and music.  An eCard can be applied for online starting December 2, 2019 and is for those Ohio residents interested in an “online only” relationship with the library.  Register here for an eCard.

Children’s Library Cards:
Children’s borrowing privileges are dictated by age. A parent or guardian may change their child’s card profile at any time when the proper adult identification is presented at the circulation desk.  Card borrowing permissions will upgrade automatically on the child’s appropriate birthday. Children who do not have a parent or guardian present at the time of application will be given a Restricted card.

FH-JV  – ages 0-13, no video borrowing –   This juvenile card will allow the borrowing of all materials except videos.
FH-YA – ages 14-17, with no restrictions  – A YA card will allow the borrowing of all materials including videos.
FH-JVR  – patrons ages 0-17 who do not have a parent or guardian present at the time of application will be given a card allowing them to borrow 3 books at a time.

Loan Periods & Fines

Fairport Harbor Public Library is pleased to announce that starting December 2, 2019 patrons will not pay overdue fines on most of FHPL materials.  By eliminating late fines, FHPL can better fulfill its goal of providing free and equitable access to all of our patrons.   You can check your receipt or look up your account online to keep track of your materials and due dates.

Keep in mind that items kept past their renewal limit will be charged the full price of the item plus a service fee.  Also, items borrowed from other libraries and some FHPL specialty items may still incur overdue fines.

Ask at the circulation desk if you have any questions about your account.

Print material that is not overdue may be renewed online or over the phone.  Please bring all overdue items and any other materials, including DVDs, videos and CDs to the Library for renewal. Fees will be assessed to lost or damaged material as stated in the policy manual.

CLEVNET Auto Renewals:

The system will attempt to automatically renew materials one day before an item is due. Materials CANNOT be renewed if: Someone else has placed a hold on the item. The item has reached its renewal limit (renewal limits vary by library system). Your account is blocked due to excess fines or fees.

If an item CANNOT be renewed, you will receive a courtesy due soon notice (via PHONE, EMAIL, or SMS Text) the evening before your materials are due. Please note: This service does not apply to digital materials (i.e. Overdrive), only physical materials.

To review and update your notification options, please visit https://www.clevnet.org/netnotice# for instructions.
