Small Town Library… Award Winning Service!

Fairport Harbor Library Again Earns National Rating for Exceptional Service

Fairport Harbor Public Library is honored to again be named a Library Journal 2021 Four-Star Library for exceptional service.   This is the eighth time since 2010 FHPL has achieved a spot in the rankings, last year earning a three-star rating.

Fairport Harbor Public Library was one of just 26 libraries in Ohio to receive this year’s honor, and the only one in Lake County.  Within its budget category, $200-399.9K, FHPL placed 11th nationwide.

The LJ Index is a national rating system designed to recognize and promote America’s public libraries.  The index measures how services provided by a library compare with libraries in its peer group.   The peer groups are divided by the library’s total operating budget.  This year 5,608 libraries were rated using per capita usage of the library.   Only 262 of these libraries received stars.  The criteria used in the rankings included library visits, circulation of physical and digital materials, public computer usage, WiFi usage, and program attendance.  LJ Index scores and Star ratings are based on data reported annually by public libraries to their state library agencies and compiled nationally by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

The staff and administration are pleased that their small-but-mighty library serves as a vital community hub supporting and encouraging patrons to be educated, informed, and engaged citizens.   Thank you to all our supporters who helped us achieve this rating by visiting and using Fairport Harbor Public Library often!  We are proud to be your community library!
